The South Devon Railway is a major tourist attraction in Devon, with over 100,000 visitors last year. During normal services a number of steam locomotives operate between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, and one of the highlights of the Christmas Season in Devon is a ride on the very popular Christmas Santa Trains.

Having taken a corporate decision to review its’ waste management processes South Devon Railway first approached TQ Recycling to create an innovative approach to capture more waste for recycling, whilst reducing the general waste going into landfill.

Together we came up with the ‘Santa’s Elves’ concept – South Devon Railway staff dressed in Santa’s Helpers costumes collect segregated waste on board the trains during the Holiday Season – a first in the UK? Almost Certainly.

South Devon Railway make every effort to recycle, and are currently working with TQ on Cardboard, Paper, Plastics and Cans, during the Christmas Season and throughout the year
